Here is a very useful clip-slide by Patrick Mckeown illustrating how breathing is affected during the anxiety state. I have read much of his literature and can say from experience that Buteyko breathing can be a very useful tool in overcoming (in particular) panic disorder.

This is an excellent book that fully explains the biological underpinnings of ‘neuroplasticity’ and how our brains change during recovery from anxiety and depressive disorders. The book fully gives weight to my own teachings and therapuetic principals.
